Our Philosophy

RCK’s approach to early childhood learning and development is reflected in the Early Years Learning Framework’s vision to provide children with a sense of belonging, recognise and celebrate their being and support their becoming.

All programs are play-based and are developed to cater for children’s individual developmental levels and needs and provide stimulation and variety. Our teachers and assistants are well qualified and experienced.

RCK implements a play based curriculum used in partnership with intentional teaching in which teachers work towards individual and group goals.

We value the history and heritage of Robert Cochrane Kindergarten and acknowledge the Wurundjeri people as the traditional owners of this land.

We recognise the uniqueness of each child, family and educator. We value all contributions and differences are celebrated.

We recognise the importance for children to develop an understanding and respect for self, others and the environment and support their sense of well being and belonging.

We view children as strong, capable, competent, curious and active participants in their own learning. We believe children learn best in a social context where peers, parents and educators are resources and work together as a community of workers.

The child’s potential is achieved through opportunities to:

    •    Imagine, create and explore their environment

    •    Propose theories, reason and solve problems to make meaning of their world

    •    Have meaningful experiences and engage in reflective thinking

    •    Explore diverse ways of knowing, thinking and learning through multiple expressive languages
